Granular chlorine is the world's most common spa water sanitiser. It's easy to use and extremely effective at eliminating bacteria.
These chlorine granules are very fine and dissolve almost instantly in warm water so that the chlorine is available immediately, making them ideal for heavily-used spas, where you don't have time to wait for tablets to erode. HTH chlorine is specifically formulated for use in spas. It smells nicer than most brands of pool chlorine.
The active ingredient is chlorine granules is sodium dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate ("dichlor"). Chlorine is also sold in slow-release tablets, but this is a different formulation called trichloroisocyanurate ("trichlor"), which you should not use in your spa. Trichlor is corrosive in warm water and is only intended for use in swimming pools. If you need a slow-release disinfectant for your hot tub, then use bromine.
